FLICKA 2 (2010)
Flicka 2, sequel to Flicka, came out on DVD on May 4, 2010; written by Jennifer Robinson and directed by Michael Damian. The first movie was based off of the book My Friend Flicka. Now, the story of the untamed wild mustang continues after she is transferred to another ranch and she befriends another troubled girl, Carrie McLaughlin.
Carrie begins as a skating city girl working as a delivery girl and raised by her grandmother. However, it becomes clear that her grandmother is no longer able to care for herself or Carrie, and she reluctantly moves to the country to live with her estranged father, Hank, where she meets Flicka, the trouble making Mustang. Carries has no trouble connecting with Flicka, especially after the horse saved her life. However, she struggles with building the long time burnt bridge with her father.
Christ teaches us forgiveness through his teachings and actions. Even as he hung from the cross he begged God to forgive his persecutors. So, how difficult would it be to forgive a man who only tried to do what he thought was best for his family? How does one make up for a lifetime of absenteeism?
With this story it is through Flicka’s help. Carrie’s love for the horse brings her to adapt to ranch life and closer to her father and ultimately her father closer to her. Even as Flicka’s life is endangered, they form an alliance in order to save her.
This is an excellent family film. It teaches the importance of family and the sacrifices it takes to keep it.
