MY RUN (2011)
Psalm 68:5 says, “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy.” (New Living Translation)
Terry Hitchcock lost his wife, Sue Hitchcock, to breast cancer. It was a heart crushing, mind crippling experience for him. I know, because I lost my mother to the same fiend.
Yet, despite all the anguish, he continued in his responsibilities as a single father of three. Not only did he conquer through it, he also fought to create awareness of the trials of single parenthood in a 75 day, 2,000 mile mega-marathon.
His , My Run, covers his journey from Minnesota to Georgia. Despite the severe weather conditions, extreme pains, and his inexperience in long distance running, he beat all the obstacles and finished the run. It is a remarkable feat that will inspire its viewers nationwide.
2 Peter 1:3 says, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”
As Hitchcock clarifies in the documentary, it was his faith the kept him running to the end, and therefore, God gave him the strength he needed to succeed. It is often expected for one to lose one's faith after the trial of losing a loved one. Many have, but it is the faithful who truly understand death for what it is. Though the pain will live with his children and him for the rest of their lives, they may also rejoice that Sue past her pain and dwelling in the presence the Lord.
Terry’s faith did not falter after the death of his wife. I tip my hat to him for his faith, his perseverance, and his love. Such traits require a strength that I cannot begin to fathom. Yet, the story does not end with the finish line. A percentage of each DVD sold will go toward the LIVESTRONG Foundation, a fundraising website to aid cancer patients.
I strongly encourage you to buy this documentary. It moved me to tears as I am confident it does for everyone who watches it. May God bless Terry Hitchcock and his children in all their endeavors.
