STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: PUTTIN' ON THE GLITZ (2011)
Have you ever had a friend avoid you without telling you why? It’s a disheartening experience. Now, have you ever avoided a friend without telling them why, because you didn’t want to risk hurting their feelings?
I admit I too have been on both sides. Just recently I went through a confusing experience. A friend of mine was avoiding me. All I wanted was to know why, and if I had done something wrong, what could I do to fix it? My friend’s problem with me was not worth jeopardizing our friendship.
That is exactly the kind of struggle that Lemon has with her friends in the new Strawberry Shortcake movie, Puttin’ on the Glitz, now on DVD. Strawberry Shortcake teaches her friends the importance of honest and kind communication as they struggle to tell Lemon their true feelings about her invention, the glamicure.
Strawberry tells them that “part of being a good friend is having the courage to give constructive criticism… and the other part is taking that criticism in a friendly way.”
My advice to all you readers. Don’t avoid your issues. Be honest and forward, because the longer you wait to talk, the worse it’s going to be for both parties. However, be kind with how you say it. Most issues are not worth risking your friendships, because a true friend will remain loyal and work through their issues. There are 49 verses in the Bible with the word “friend” including Proverbs 17:17, which says that a friend is always loyal as well they should be.
