TERRORIST ATTACK IN LAS VEGAS
CBS News defines the mass shooting in Las Vegas early this morning as "the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history."
Innocent people who were merely trying to enjoy a country music concert on the Las Vegas strip were shocked and terrified as Stephen Paddock showered bullets into the crowd killing 59 and injuring 527 people.
Despite an adamant claim from ISIS that Paddock acted on their behalf, there is no evidence that he was associated with any terrorist organization.
Regardless of his associations, Paddock committed a horrific crime. He ended lives despite their age, race, or gender. He caused injury to the minds, bodies, and spirits of hundreds of people. He caused confusion and fear to the nation. This man acted out of hate.
Such a horrific crime is indeed the opposite of Christ's message:
LOVE THY NEIGHBOR. (Mark 12:31)
"When will we get back to the simplicity of love thy neighbor?" I heard from a wise fellow minister after giving me a disturbing list of statistics.
- In the past year, there have been more terrorist attacks by white males than any other.
- The U.S. has endured the highest number of terrorist attacks in the world.
Whether or not these facts are true, I know one thing for sure. The level of discrimination, intolerance, and hatred has reached crisis proportions. It has infected the minds of our people. It is evident in the riots, shootings, fights plastered all over the news.
We need the simplicity of Christ's love more than ever.
Let us remember this: Despite race, age, and gender, we are equal. Equal in our sin .Let us return to love. Let us return to acceptance. Let us return to compassion. Just as Christ loves, accepts, and sympathizes with us.
Keep the victims of this morning's tragedy in your prayers as they recover.
As their loved ones grieve.
As the glittering city of Las Vegas rebuilds.
As our nation struggles to cure itself from infection..
