THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE (2010)
The box office smash, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, hit the theaters on June 30. This time, Bella struggles with her feelings between Edward and Jacob. She loves them both, she doesn’t want to lose either, and she fights to keep them from killing each other. She can’t choose one of them without making an enemy of the other.
It becomes easier when the two enemies form a common interest, to keep Bella safe. The wolves and the Cullen clan join forces against an army of aggressive new born vampires. Jake says, “At least, this way I get to kill some vampires.” It turns into a battle of red eyes vs. wolves and yellow eyes. It goes without saying, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
As it turns out the battle is over Bella who is helpless. She has no powers, no strength, and no way to protect herself without the help of Edward and Jake. All she has is her courage, and she learns that the power of courage is all she needs to save Edward and herself. She sacrifices her safety and risks her life to help destroy the threat against the Cullens.
This battle gives her a front row view of the choice she makes to change into a vampire. Despite the Cullens’ (even Edward’s) warnings against that kind of life and despite all that she witnesses she still insists on becoming a vampire. They tell her that her hunger for blood will be uncontrollable and that she’d be stuck in that same life forever. None of the other Cullens had the choice to become a vampire. Dr. Cullen had changed them to save their lives. If they had been given that choice, then they would have chosen to die like humans.
The audience might wonder why she won’t listen. Why can’t she be content with the life she has? What makes her chose Edward over Jacob? No one can tell for sure what’s going on in her head and why she insists so intently to change. By changing she would lose her humanity with her lust for blood even her love for Edward.
In order to answer these questions and more we eagerly await until the next movie to premier. I’m sure it will continue to be a box office hit for book fans and movies fans alike.
